Why it matters
Every venue has its own shape. Some spill onto a terrace for drinks, some keep everyone in one long barn, some seat guests early and leave a long gap before the food. Having worked a place before tells me where the natural pauses are going to fall and how to move through a room without cutting across your running order.
Below are venues across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire where I've performed. To be clear about what this list is: these are places I've genuinely worked, not venues I have any formal arrangement with. If yours is on it, I'll arrive already knowing the layout. If it isn't, that's rarely a problem either. I'll ask you a few questions about timings and space beforehand, which is what I'd do anyway.
For venues and planners
From a venue's point of view I'm about as low-maintenance as a supplier gets. Nothing to set up, nothing to plug in, no stage, no sound, no floor space and no furniture moved. I arrive dressed for the event, work the room, and leave without anyone having to accommodate me.
Public liability insurance and a current DBS certificate are both in date and I'll send either straight over to a coordinator on request, which saves a round of emails on the week of the event.
