A fortieth in a village hall, a sixtieth in a marquee, a golden wedding lunch, a christening, a retirement do, a charity ball, a summer garden party. Close-up magic suits all of them for the same reason: it works wherever people are already standing, and it gives a room full of guests who half know each other something to talk about.
How it works on the night
My aim is to meet as many of your guests as possible, so I keep each group tight and keep moving. That isn't about cutting corners. It's about understanding that no single element of an evening should swallow it, and that a magician who plants himself at one table for twenty minutes is doing the host no favours.
A lot of it is reading the room. If a group is deep in conversation, or the food is arriving, or someone is about to make a speech, I move on and come back later. Guests get a proper piece of magic and then get their evening back, which is exactly the balance a good party needs.
The style is warm rather than loud. I don't shout, I don't interrupt, and nobody gets hauled out in front of the room to be the butt of a joke.
Nothing to arrange
There's nothing to set up and nothing to plug in. The magic happens in your guests' hands, so it works just as well in a front room, a golf club function suite, a garden or a restaurant back room as it does in a grand hall. Nobody has to move a table.

Common questions
The same as for any other event: from £295 for an hour, up to £695 for three. Parties aren't charged differently from weddings or corporate work. Everything is set out on the pricing page, including how travel is handled.
Milestone birthdays are the most common, particularly fortieths, fiftieths and sixtieths. Also anniversaries and golden weddings, christenings and naming days, retirement parties, charity balls and fundraising dinners, engagement parties, and straightforward garden parties where the hosts want something more interesting than another round of drinks.
No. Nothing to set up, nothing to plug in, no floor space and no microphone. Everything fits in my pockets and the magic happens in your guests' hands, so it works in a front room as readily as a function suite.
Yes. There's no innuendo in any of the material and nobody is embarrassed or singled out, so it plays to a family party as comfortably as to an adults-only evening. I hold a current DBS certificate and can send it over if you'd like to see it.
The first hour usually works best. That's when guests are arriving, don't yet know who to talk to, and the room hasn't warmed up. Magic breaks that ice faster than anything else and gives people an immediate thing to talk about. The other good slot is between courses at a sit-down dinner.
Surrey and Hampshire as standard, from Farnham, Guildford and Woking across to Winchester and Basingstoke, plus Berkshire, West Sussex and London regularly. There's no travel charge under 45 minutes or 30 miles from Farnham.
